About

It all began on 15 December 2002, drip fed via a 56k modem from an internet cafe near Psar Thmei, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, whilst overstaying my visa. FrogInMyThroat has mainly been a travel blog about the places I have been too, and about how it is to come back. Now that I am home I haven’t written so much, other than an Xmas email, but that could all change next time I leave.

Who am I? I’m a New Zealand IT professional and Sociology dilettante (or possibly the other way around) interested in sociology, identity, the self, mental health, cognitive behaviour therapy, cross-cultural communication, transitions, development in the third world, microfinance, travel, SE Asia (Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia), cultural consumption, the Arts and absurdity.

I am into hiking, medium-intensity outdoor activites, laughing so hard no sound comes out and I get pains in my stomach, long phone chats, saving the world from itself, talking to strangers, asking questions, dabbling, having a chronically ironic disposition to the world around me, listening to rain on the roof whilst in bed, exercising at the gym, being immersed in other cultures, travelling (everywhere and anywhere I haven’t been), being spontaneous, learning languages, finding out how other people live, long showers, crab racing, reading in bed, watching compelling and engaging films, learning/discovering/adventuring, wearing my underpants outside my jeans ala Superman, new ideas..ideas..ideas.., and Tiddlywinks.
