Who am I?

  • With 230 million people, I am the fourth most populous nation in the world after China, India and the US
  • I am the largest state by population in South East Asia
  • I am home to the Boogey Man – the name given to the Bugis people by Dutch colonizers and still used today to scare non-Bugis children into doing what they are told
  • Last time I checked, I had the world’s largest Muslim population
  • I can boast the world’s most pirate infected waters
  • I am the largest archipelago in the world, consisting of 18,108 islands, and stretching 5000kms east to west
  • My offical working week is 6 days, with only Sunday off
  • I am the tied for the 8th place as the world’s most perceived to be corrupt country, according to Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index 2004. This poses moral and ethical dilemmas for people from the 2nd to least perceived to be corrupt country, New Zealand.

  • I share a sea border with Australia and like to find drugs in the luggage of Australians

  • I consist of a peoples divided amongst a plethora of ethnicities, languages, clans, tribes, and even castes. Add to the mix different religions, and a class society with vast gaps in wealth. One of these ethnicities is the Eipo people, a group where 27 percent of the population are left-handed
  • The official FIMT BMPL (Big Mac Poverty Line) measures the amount of people in a country consuming less than the price of a Big Mac in that country per day. My people pay US$1.40 for a Big Mac, and approx. 15% of my population lives below the BMPL. I have calculated my people need a daily intake of 2,100 calories. A Big Mac has 560 calories.

    I like to think of Huntly as my younger brother. We both share a propensity for small children asking non-locals for money.
